Natacha Roos Appointed Director of the St-Justin Foundation
The Board of the St-Justin Foundation has appointed Natacha Roos as the new director of the institution. She becomes the first woman to hold this position since the foundation’s establishment in 1927. She will assume her duties in August.
Natacha Roos will oversee five university residences in Fribourg, Zurich, Geneva, Sion, and Lausanne, comprising 450 rooms allocated to students from 110 nationalities. She will also support 115 scholarship recipients from emerging countries, assisted by 43 staff members.
The recruitment process followed a participatory approach, including staff representatives on the selection committee. Following this process, the Board of the Foundation unanimously appointed Natacha Roos. She impressed with her combined strategic and operational experience, unifying leadership, active listening skills, and deeply human and intercultural vision.
“Her concrete commitment to a fairer world by supporting the education of students from emerging countries makes her the ideal director to lead the Foundation into the future,” emphasized Bishop Charles Morerod, President of the Board.
Natacha Roos, 46, is the mother of two teenagers. She studied history and geography at the University of Fribourg before pursuing further education in cultural management and public administration in Lausanne. Her professional journey began in the cultural and socio-cultural sectors, which she explored for about ten years in French-speaking Switzerland.
For eleven years, she served as Head of the Culture Department of the City of Fribourg and managed the cultural fund of the Agglomeration within Coriolis Infrastructures. During this time, she fostered inclusive cultural initiatives through numerous partnerships, connecting culture with other fields.
In 2021, she was elected to the Forum des 100, which recognizes influential figures in French-speaking Switzerland. In 2023, she founded OrganiCité, a nationally recognized organization promoting social and cultural innovation. This initiative received two awards in 2024. Since May 2025, she has served on the Swiss Cultural Mediation Committee.
She will now dedicate 90% of her time to the St-Justin Foundation, while continuing part-time consulting work.
“I have always been committed to contributing concretely to people’s well-being—that’s been the guiding thread of my career. St-Justin now offers me the opportunity to have a lasting impact on the lives of many students and contribute to the future of their home countries,” said Natacha Roos.
The Board of the Foundation expresses its deep gratitude to Marco Cattaneo, who served as director for 19 years, for his unwavering commitment to the mission of St-Justin. He will retire this summer.
Founded in 1927 in Fribourg by Bishop Charrière, the Œuvre Saint-Justin Foundation (Stiftung Justinus-Werk) supports the education of young people from emerging countries, enabling them to use their skills to serve their home countries. Through scholarships in Switzerland or in their countries of origin, the Foundation promotes intercultural and interreligious dialogue and, through its university residences, offers a true school of life based on solidarity, respect, and equal rights.
